Provider Feedback Needed as AHCA Seeks 2-Year Extension of SMMC MMA Program

Monday, June 8, 2020   (0 Comments)

On June 1, 2020, the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) announced a 30-day public notice and comment period regarding its request to obtain federal authority to extend Florida’s 1115 Managed Medical Assistance (MMA) Waiver. The MMA program — part of the Statewide Medicaid Managed Care (SMMC) program — operates statewide and provides primary and acute medical care for Florida Medicaid recipients through competitively procured managed care plans.

According to AHCA's announcement, the State’s MMA waiver extension application includes no amendments to the current program, but it seeks to extend the waiver by two years (through June 3, 2024) in order to “build upon the successful elements of the program including stronger protections for Florida Medicaid recipients.”

Click here to read the comprehensive description of the waiver extension request, which must be approved by the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Click here and here to read recent news reports about the proposal.

The State's announcement welcomes public comments from providers, recipients, and all stakeholders and interested parties. Two public meetings will be held virtually (see details below). Providers are encouraged to participate in the public meetings to offer comments and feedback to AHCA. Written comments may be submitted via mail or electronically per the instructions below by June 30, 2020, after which AHCA will review and consider public feedback before submitting the waiver extension application to CMS.

HCAF Seeking Provider Feedback

HCAF is seeking input from home health agencies regarding any existing and ongoing issues they are experiencing with MMA plans. This feedback is critical so that HCAF can prepare and submit comments on behalf of the industry by the June 30 deadline.
