Overview

This class is for the coder who understands the basics, and is ready to take their coding knowledge to the next level. In this 2-day session, we will work through common home health and hospice scenarios for each chapter and discuss the rationale behind each. Understand how coding can affect accurate reimbursement, outcomes, and how important coding will be under PDGM. Understand the interaction between face to face documentation, clinical notes from the provider, accurate coding, and an accurate comprehensive assessment, and why it is important to get it right the first time. We will also discuss the latest coding clinic guidance related to coding. Bring a current 2020 ICD-10 CM manual with you to class.

Faculty

Apryl Swafford began her nursing career in 1993, obtaining a BSN from Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Ala. Her first few years were spent learning nursing, trial by fire style, in a 16-bed ICU unit. She transitioned into home health in late 1997 working PRN and weekends while learning her way and has spent the majority of the years since working home health in some capacity. She has worked as a field clinician/case manager, clinical manager, and leader of a cardiopulmonary specialty program. During her tenure at the last two positions, she was responsible for chart audits, OASIS review and coding, plus management of a team of nurses, therapists, and home health aides. Apryl is certified as an OASIS Specialist–Clinical (COS-C), and is a credential holder of the Homecare Coding Specialist (HCS-D) for both ICD-9 and ICD-10.
