Essentials of ICD-10 Coding for Home Health

Now, more than ever, it’s critical that clinicians and coders are accurate and efficient in their coding for every service your home care agency provides. This workshop will seek to develop the clinician or coder’s knowledge and competence of ICD-10-CM guidelines and requirements of home health coding practice. Come learn how to code, avoid common beginner mistakes and maximize productivity!
Attendees must have an ICD-10-CM coding manual to fully participate in practice scenario activities.
• Explain background of ICD‐10‐CM.
• Explain the marginal icons.
• Describe how to navigate the code book.
• Explain the relationship of specific OASIS items to coding.
• Discuss the general coding guidelines and conventions.
• Explain the Coding Tables for neoplasms, drugs and chemicals.
• Discuss the use of special codes.
Laura Waddle, RN, MS, HCS-D, is the Educational Consultant & Director of Coding Services for Foundation Management Services (FMS) with over 30 years of experience in nursing education. She has been in home health since 2004 starting as a field nurse and progressing to Director of an agency prior to assuming the role of Educational Consultant. Working closely with Coding-To-Go she has the opportunity to participate in active coding of home health episodes as well as becoming familiar with documentation by many home health agencies.
